The league was launched in May of 2012. Garena launched their Garena Premier League (GPL), a six-month-long online professional gaming league with more than 100 matches to be played. GPL's inaugural season features six teams made up of professional League of Legends players. These teams represent top players from their respective countries. GPL match and its commentaries can be streamed on the internet. The public can view games on the GPL website. In January of 2013, Garena confirmed it would begin the Garena Premier League's season two began in January on 4th January. Garena Premier League 2013, started on the 4th of January 2013 and will comprise two new teams: one each from Taiwan as well as Vietnam. This brings the number of teams up to eight. The Garena E-Sports Arena an arena for esports is a venue that was inaugurated in November 2014 at the Neihu District of Taipei. This studio was partly built for an event called the League of Legends Masters Series which is the top-of-the-line LoL Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau league. The tournament was a spin-off of GPL. The first month of January in 2015, Garena launched Iron Solari League, a women's League of Legends tournament in the Philippines. It's a monthly tournament which is played in the second part of each month. It aims to encourage participation among groups who are not represented and is open to women who identify as female. Alongside tournaments for competitive play, Garena also organizes events that allow users to get together and make connections offline.
