Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from the family, she was grew up by her mother grandparents, and godparents. As a young girl, Catherine Ford struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety due to the word association. Ford began to become interested in acting during her teens, and joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she would not be a good choice for this school. Ford was then able to apply for a place in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. He went on to get frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford did not graduate until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in 1996.
